100% compostable dish with environmentally-friendly coating opens up new markets!

Roots Biopack introduces a unique, fully compostable dish that is 100% resistant to moisture, water and grease. This new product makes it possible to use Roots Biopack products for a wide range of applications including frozen meals, ready meals, meat and meat products, cheese, sliced and chopped fruit and vegetables and fish.

Roots Biopack has already been bringing sugar cane-based sustainable packaging to the market for more than 10 years. All these products are 100% compostable thanks to the use of renewable raw materials. In addition, these products carry the required certifications, including the European standard 13432 and the OK Compost Home certificate. The products can withstand a wide range of temperatures and are suitable for the freezer, oven and microwave. Thanks to an environmentally-friendly coating, the product is suitable for various uses.

Roots Biopack started coating its first products about nine months ago. Peter van Rosmalen, Sales Manager for Roots Biopack Europe, is also delighted with this development. “We developed this product together with a fish supplier who was looking for sustainable packaging. We can rightly call the result a sustainable catch! We had already been busy for a number of years researching the possibilities for a grease, water and oil-resistant dish. After a lot of trial and error we found the solution in an environmentally-friendly coating for our sustainable dishes. This new product allows us to demonstrate our leading position in the innovation market for sustainable packaging. Furthermore, this innovation brings top seal and MAP within reach.”
